Outside Food Policy

Snack foods served to the entire class must meet the following requirements:

  • A fruit, vegetable, dairy product, protein food, whole-grain product, OR a combination food that contains at least 1/4 cup fruit or vegetable
  • whole-grain product = 50% or more whole grains by weight, OR whole grains listed as the first ingredients
  • Individually wrapped
  • 10% or less total cals from saturated fat
  • 35% or less total calories from fat
  • Zero (0) trans. fat
  • 35% or less sugar grams by weight
  • 200mg or less sodium content
  • 200 calories or less per serving

For beverages:

  • No carbonated beverages
  • No artificial sweeteners
  • 100% fruit or vegetable juice must be 8 ounces or less

Please pay attention to details such as for the Dorito's, only the reduced fat variety meets the USDA guidelines, and the rice crispy treats must be the whole grain version.

Birthday Bites

OCPS has a program called Birthday Bites where parents can order a snack and celebration for their student's class, which will be served at their recess time, along with singing Happy Birthday (if applicable).
