Dress Code/Uniforms

Student Dress Code

School uniforms are mandatory every day for Killarney students.
If a student arrives to school without their proper uniform, they will be directed to the front office and may miss important class time until they are able to change.

Tops:

  • All students must wear a forest green or white collared polo shirt.
  • Killarney Spirit T-Shirts may be worn on Fridays only.

Shirts with the school logo are not mandatory. However, if you would like to purchase the logo shirts, visit My Spirit Wear at Killarney.
 

Bottoms:

  • All students must wear khaki, navy blue, black, or blue jean bottoms.
  • Shorts and skirts must be long enough to reach the bottom of the child's fingertips, i.e. mid-thigh.
  • Shorts and pants must be worn around the waist and must fit properly.

Shoes:

  • Sneakers are recommended.
  • Shoes must be closed-toe and closed-heel.
  • Crocs must be worn with the back strap on the heel.

Dresses:

  • Dresses or one-piece outfits must be khaki, navy blue, black, or forest green.
  • Must have a collar attached or a collared uniform shirt underneath.

Examples of Inappropriate Clothing:

  • No tank-tops or sleeveless tops
  • No tops that expose the stomach
  • No sandals or flip-flops
  • No shoes with wheels
  • No shoes with tall heels
  • No shoes with metal cleats.
  • No articles of clothing which make reference directly or indirectly to profanity, vulgarity, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, or violence.


Administration will make the final decision as to the appropriateness of ALL items of dress.



Uniform Waiver Policy
The DOE policy requires a provision allowing parents to request a waiver for their child to be excused from following the uniform policy. The following are the cases that are qualified for requests for waivers: 

· Financial hardship (Please note that our school does NOT require purchase of clothing from a uniform company. The clothing required for uniforms can be bought at any store you would normally buy your children’s clothing so this issue was minimized for our families.) 

· Medical reasons that prevent student’s ability to wear school uniform. 

· Incoming students that commence after the first month of school. (They have a grace period of 30 days to comply with the Uniform Policy.)

Each waiver will be reviewed by a committee on a case by case basis and must be renewed annually.
